When it comes to building your dream dollhouse, finding the perfect miniatures is half the fun! Whether you’re looking for tiny furniture, detailed accessories or custom pieces, there are plenty of great places to shop. Here are my top 5 sources for all things miniature:
1. Hobby Lobby: The Ultimate One-Stop Shop
Hobby Lobby is my holy grail for 1:12 scale dollhouse items. They carry everything from full furniture sets to lighting fixtures, wall treatments, and even baseboards. They also offer a variety of dollhouse kits - from farmhouse style to Victorian and more. If you’re into creating custom interiors, you’ll find plenty of intricate details to bring your dollhouse to life. Best of all, Hobby Lobby is super affordable, making it my top pick. Plus, you can stock up on just about any craft supply while you’re there!
2. Michael’s: A Crafter’s Paradise
Michael’s is another great option for dollhouse furniture and accessories. I've found some of my favorite pieces here, from miniature books and plants to tiny food and decor items. Their selection is similar to Hobby Lobby’s, but much smaller (in size and quantity - they're not always 1:12 scale). They have a wide variety of accessories to personalize your dollhouse. And as with all things Michael’s, you can often catch great sales to help your miniatures budget go even further! They always have coupons -- don't go in there without one!
3. Etsy: Support Small, Shop Custom
If you’re looking for unique, handmade dollhouse furniture, Etsy is a must. There are so many talented artists and creators who specialize in custom pieces, and you can find everything from modern furniture to vintage-inspired designs. Shopping on Etsy also means supporting small businesses, which is always a plus! My shop is now live (YAY), but a couple of my favorite online shops include Macy Mae Designs, Melvin's Miniatures, The Modern Dollhouse, Marina's Miniatures, Tease Miniatures and more.
4. Amazon: Convenient and Comprehensive
While I prefer to shop small whenever possible, Amazon does offer a huge variety of dollhouse furniture and decor. If you're looking for a quick and easy way to shop different styles, check out my Amazon storefront where I’ve curated several mood boards with dollhouse decor ideas. It’s a great option for finding what you need, fast.
5. Temu & SHEIN: Budget-Friendly Finds
If you’re working with a tight budget, Temu and SHEIN have some of the most affordable dollhouse furniture out there. While these sites often raise concerns, I’ve personally had no issues with them. I do recommend using a secure payment method like PayPal just to be safe. The quality is surprisingly good for the price, though shipping might take a week or two. Also, don't come for me...I don't support their ethics, I'm just telling you that their miniatures are insanely cheap!
These are just a few of my favorite places to source miniatures. Whether you’re looking for something custom-made or simply hunting for a good deal, these shops offer a wide variety of options to suit your dollhouse design style. Happy decorating!
